Deep Waters Ministry
"There amongst the least of these we shall meet the risen Christ!"

Host a PBJ Party for the Homeless in your City!

Deep Waters Ministry is seeking to support groups on college campuses, churches and parishes nationwide with an ongoing commitment to sharing with our fellow man.  The PBJ party gives young people the opportunity to experience life outside of their known environment.  We will provide coaching support to these groups to insure a fulfilling experience for all involved.

The concept is simple! Have a get together in your home inviting five or six friends.  Have the group each contribute to the acquiring of four or five loaves of bread, a large jar of peanut butter, a large jar of grape jelly, a package of sandwich bags, and a package of paper bags.  Then take the time to make PBJ sandwiches until you run out of bread placing two in each paper bag.  Feel free to add pieces of candy, a soda or anything else your inspired to add.  Then, hit the streets in some of the areas of your nearby cities where homeless and hungry people can be found.  If you fear for your safety in these areas, make arrangements with local shelters to bring the sack lunches there.

Now for the fun part. Don’t just drop them off.  Sit down and have a meal with your brothers and sisters in Christ.  There amongst the least of these you will meet the risen Christ.

Now for some coaching! Go to these people absolutely accepting them as they are and as they are not.  Do not make them wrong for the choices they have made in their life.  Do not go there seeking to change anything about them.  Do not seek to convert them to your faith.  Do not go with pity in your heart .  Do not go there seeking to contribute to them but allow them to contribute to you.  Just love them as Christ would.  Be Christ to them, and we promise they will be Christ to you!

Now you don’t have to take our coaching!  But we promise that our twenty years of doing outreach projects like this has proven to us that this manner of communion will transform all involved.  Even if you don’t agree with us, try it out and see for yourself.

Please let us know if you are up for this challenge.  We do outreach projects like this all the time and know what a difference it can make for us, for them, and for the world.  We look forward to hearing from you on your desire to host one of these events in your city.
